A Rose by any Other Name

 Morning Jo.

Monday morning and the rain is falling. I am snuggled up in my little house on the side of the road. Several of the lights are on because it is quite dark.  I do enjoy these days. quiet and introspective and nice to watch from the inside.

I have been thinking a lot about the quilt world.  I follow several of my favourite makers on instagram. I know you do. too. I am amazed by the number of artists and the volume of the work that is brought into the world. And I am astonished at the variety and differences of projects that fall under the general category of QUILT.

There seems to be an online group for every type of quilter. Traditional, modern. artist. outsider. experimental and the list goes on. There are groups for quilters who make certain quilts. The Dear Jane group that you belong to are all involved in some way with reinterpreting the beautiful quilt made by Jane A. Stickel 1869. I have seen some of your blocks and am truly impressed by your perseverance and dedication to making this epic quilt. This is a task not for the faint of heart.  You go girl!!!

This is a quilt that I made after we went to a workshop with Judy Martin. She showed us how she did these little reverse applique dots. I think I was doing one of my one a day everyday projects. It looks like I was following a calendar. And I think I just stopped when I felt done. It's strange for me because I am having a hard time really remembering the making of this quilt.  It could have more stitching done. And maybe that will happen - or maybe it won't. It's bound and signed and maybe done and maybe there's more to be done.

And this is a picture from my little house. My calendar quilt is going out of the rotation today .. for a while. I finished a project that was started near the beginning of the shelter at home movement that the whole world belongs to. And I am wearing a dress that I bought in Israel many years ago when the whole world could travel.

This is the quilt that will be hung there.

It's a drunkard's Path. Maybe that's appropriate because I do think there has been more wine in this house than usual(that might not be true). I know it's not a good picture. It's too wet to put on the clothesline and I am waiting for my grandson to cut a new rod to hang it on my wall.

I do think I belong to the "scrappy quilt" group and and maybe the "just keep going until you want to stop" group and also the "Is it ever going to be finished" group. Oh and there also is the "use what you have" group of which I am surely a star member. I also seem to be a member in good standing of the "more projects started than finished" group. I think we both belong to that group.

Have a nice day, my friend.

  1. A beautiful post my friend. I don't remember you making a quilt after the Judy Martin class. I have a piece I started in the class. I must bring it out and finish. I seem to be at home more and more... so I am getting more done.
