prints from nature

Morning Jo.
I seem to be waking up earlier and earlier..and just buzzing with ideas.

Today the plan is to start a dedicated flower pressing process. I am going to collect flowers, weeds, sticks and stones..well maybe not stones,,organic only..things and press them in a flower press.

i will try to document.  date, name where collected..blah blah.

and see what happens.

I hope that i will be able to use both the flowers and the paper for some projects.

I am going to use printer paper mostly.. because that's what i have most readily available.

My daughter sent these flowers to me last week so they will be in the press for sure.

And Boston Ferns.for sure. i have lots of ferns at my trailer. i did press a few last summer,,in books,,and they will be there waiting for me. Ferns will be great for sun printing,

I have been finding some interesting critters in my house,,maybe I can use them.
Well maybe not. I just put them outside.

Do you think i should presoak the papers? Alum..soy milk??? oh I guess I could do some of each..and just try to document it.. for repeatability..which you not I am not the best at.

Morning Karen,

This idea is much better than writing emails....

I will reply to the questions and your process today and then post on what I have been up to the past few days...

I like the idea of printing what is around you. great process of using in your enviroment..

Ferns are not great at leaving prints on fabric because they don't have tannins in them. What happens with them on paper I don't know.

Just to dry them to use later in  sun printing you don't have to do anything to the paper.

If you want to eco print the paper then you would have to do something. I am not as sure what to do .. but I will get back to you on it. I just need to check my notes first... my guess is that you would have to mordant the paper with tanin or iron. There is so many ways to do things for different processes... sometimes play is just the best. Copy paper is cheap and not as precious as a silk or wool scarf. lol

I love the picture of the chairs... is that at your trailer or home in NF's....

The flowers are beautiful from your daughter... it is such a nice thing and lifts the spirits....
