nothing to lose

Morning JO.

I think I told that I have joined a book making group. We are doing a round robin kind of exchange where we each do a page for someone else's book. There are seven of us. So much fun.
Each participant decides on the theme for their own book. It's a secret so I won't tell you mine until the final reveal. But along the way I have come up with several new ideas for books of my own.
I have been kind of collecting a few things that I think might work.
Nest

And I have been looking through my small scraps (not the tiny scrap collection) collection. The stuff that is too good to toss but not really big enough or nice enough to include in a quilt. The small size is perfect for book pages. I found these two pieces of cotton that i must have dyed for some project. not very nice. So another layer of something might make them more interesting.

I made a paste of flour and water. I have a little bit of flour left. Not enough to bake with. Who knew that flour was going to be one of those things that would be in big demand during the pandemic. I didn't stock up. I didn't stock up on toilet paper either but I seem to be ok still.

I spread the paste over the cotton.
and smoothed it out with the old platinum credit card.

Now I  have to let it dry. Anyone who says " oh , you must just have so much patience to do the stuff you do". should watch me when I do this. I am wildly impatiently waiting for the flour paste to dry and harden. I check it every 5 minutes. I need to find something else to do while I wait.

Then I crackled it and painted over with black paint.

and this is what I got.

It's ok. Some spots are a little dark. I thinned the paint a little bit too much. But I think it will work for what I want. I will be using small pieces.

And this is what I learned this week.
You cannot put those mailing envelopes through your printer. They melt. They make a mess. They make your printer  dead.
Have a good week.
