Hi Jo,
Just looking out my window at this. .it's snowing. I love the look of it, I love how it just covers everything with a clean white blanket. And when I can sit in my little house and look at it I love it. So that's what I am going to do. Sit and look out the window. I have been knitting scarves. I have a big stash of yarn that I inherited from a friend who was an optimistic collector who ran out of time. I donated bags full of her yarn to the seniors centre a while ago but kept some for myself. Audrey would be glad that I have used some of it. I hope it will keep a few people a little warmer this winter.
I knit 24 stitches and 366 rows with this yarn. I am hoping it offers a little bit of year round protection to someone. It does take a village. There are many people who need warm scarves and gloves today.
I made this quilt several years ago for my middle grandson. He lives near a ski resort and loves to spend a lot of time there. I hope the blue spikes remind him of the snow fences along the sides of the hills. And its bound by that lovely flames fabric. I don't think I have any more of it in my stash. This quilt is huge. Its folded in half on my line. It's far too big for his bed. I will hold it for a while longer.
Yes it's on the line with snow falling on it. It's not precious. I will bring it in later and put it in the wash. it's been out of the rotation for a while.
And this one is winter storm warning in effect. It's had dyed cottons and synthetic.
I love the work you are doing with the wool. Do you think you could overdye some wool suiting that I have in my collection? It's just a little bit too beige for me. maybe Blue or turquoise would be nice. It will be interesting to see how it looks. Maybe I will keep a bit undyed and use it too.
I am finding that I seem to be going away from using only cottons. I have never been a real purist about using only cottons in my quilts but now I would really like to look at other fabrics to see how they work.
And this one is cuttings from the tailor shop floor and red flannel and a small piece of one of my Dad's ties. |
One good thing about posting on a blog is that we are keeping a record of some of our work. When I am looking for pictures I can find them here especially if I have made good use of the labels. I know that my photo albums are such a mess.. and I really don't know where to begin at a big sort. I just seem to be making a bigger mess. I am not very good at documentation.
So back to knitting scarves and marathoning Shetland for me. Beautiful scenery, lovely sweaters and great escape.
